So for the first 2 weeks I went around with the handy Zoom H1 recorder capturing sound around the house and near to the house. I would capture the sound with Zoom H1 and I would shake or drop the item in front of the microphone to capture a clear full feeling sound from the object. These would be captured to an SD card in a 2 track stereo WAV file that could then be imported into a DAW. I would also wear a pair of headphones to monitor the sound that I am recording to help get a clear and high quality recording of the object.
For the setup of the Zoom H1 i set the settings to 48Khz 24bit and 2 track stereo for the best recording with lots of editing head room and then i would use the buttons on the side to gain the mics so i could clearly record quite and loud sound without it been to quite or clipped adding horrible distortion.
Here on the left is a picture of me shaking a box of cereal in front of the Zoom H1 to demonstrate what I have been doing with all my objects to get a clear recording.
